“France Santé” Network: the new executive’s response to combating medical deserts remains unclear

A new Prime Minister, a new commitment to combating medical deserts. Four days after his appointment to Matignon, Sébastien Lecornu devoted his first visit, Saturday, September 13, to the issue of access to care. In Mâcon, he promised the deployment, by 2027, of a network of 5,000 "France Santé" centers. "We must have a minimum of local healthcare provision per catchment area, " he affirmed during a visit to a departmental health center, "so generally something around 30 minutes from your home." After France Travail and France Services, now comes France Santé, a network supposed to operate on a similar model - that of the "one-stop shop."
A relative novelty: the presence of a doctor – or another health professional – within half an hour of one's home is not far from recalling the commitment made by the former Minister of Health François Braun, at the beginning of 2023, to deploy 4,000 multi-professional health centers by 2027. At the time, more than 2,200 structures of this type already covered the territory, with teams including general practitioners but also other professionals (nurses, midwives, physiotherapists, etc.).
